Zodiac Constellation Jewelry

Zodiac Constellation Jewelry

Many of you are surely familiar with your Zodiac sign (90% of people are) and perhaps the name of their visual representations.

Do you know why those representations were selected thousands of years ago? Early astronomers studied and diagrammed the night skies, producing an early blueprint, if you will, of the most significant stars within the Zodiac constellations and named them according to the shape they believed the stars created.

Do you know what your Zodiac constellation looks like? Or that it can be made into gorgeous jewelry pieces? Read on for suggestions!

Aries

The word Aries is Latin for Ram and was first described by the astronomer Ptolemy. I’ve seen Aries constellation jewelry done with only three major planets, but there are actually at least four major stars. As always, Etsy has a wonderful selection!

Taurus

The Taurus constellation in the northern hemisphere and considered one of the oldest constellations marking the Spring Equinox. The brightest star the Bull constellation is the red giant, Aldebaran, along with seven others. A beautiful piece of Taurean constellation jewelry can be designed for you here.

Gemini

The Twins pattern is highlighted by its two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, but the entire constellation consists of nine stars. There is a beautiful ring out at this Etsy seller.

Cancer

The Crab constellation heralds the Summer Solstice and is made up of seven stars that are difficult to see. You’ll definitely see them in this gorgeous necklace from Zale’s!

Leo

The Lion always looks better is its signature metal, gold. Take a look at this beautiful leonine constellation necklace out at Gorjana’s.

Virgo

Virgo (Latin for virgin) is the largest constellation in the Zodiac, but it only has one bright star, Spica. Wolf and Badger feature the traditional nine.

Libra

Libra is the only non-human or animal constellation symbol. The Scales are made up of 17 stars, but none are of the first magnitude. One of my favorites is this charm bracelet which is also out at Etsy.

Scorpio

This bright constellation is made up of 13 stars, with three being exceptionally bright. Few jewelry designers depict the Scorpion pattern as perfectly as Angora.com.

Sagittarius

Half-human and half-animal, the Archer contains 17 stars with eight of them forming a star pattern called The Teapot. Again, out at Etsy, you’ll find this pendant with all 17 stars!

Capricorn

The Goat has the distinction of being the smallest constellation in the Zodiac (only 5 stars) and it’s also quite faint. That doesn’t keep this jewelry piece from dazzling, though!

Aquarius
This air sign is often thought to be a water sign because of its symbol, the Water Bearer. Made of 10 main stars, two of them are bright and considered lucky, Sadalmelik and Sadalsuud.YourMoonPhase offers this constellation in both silver or gold metal.

Pisces

The last sign of the Zodiac, The Fish is comprised of 18 main stars, none being very bright. However, this sign contains several beautiful galaxies! Here’s one heavenly Pisces constellation charm necklace.
